Client Overview

Nestled in the heart of the Finger Lakes wine region, Bully Hill Vineyards is a place of great wine and rich culture. We had the opportunity to showcase the vineyard's unique personality and bring the spirit of Bully Hill to the web with an immersive and dynamic new site.

Design Strategy

Bully Hill originated as the second passion of Walter S. Taylor in an effort to control the quality and honest family philosophy which had driven the family's wine-making for generations. Walter's first passion however, was painting, and this has carried through into Bully Hill giving it a rich and vibrant culture. After our first visit to the winery, when we were able to tour the complex and view the collection of Walter's work in their gallery, we knew immediately that we needed to bring this colorful and quirky aesthetic into the website, to differentiate it from any other wine site out there and pay homage to the art that was so much a part of Bully Hill's heritage.

Our Solution

One of the main goals of this new website was to get more people to visit the actual Bully Hill estate. The landscape at their location is breathtaking, and there is plenty to do there, so we wanted to remind web users whenever we could that Bully Hill is a place to visit. By using their beautifully painted mural front-and-center and linking the five different website sections to corresponding buildings depicted in the mural, the digital connection to the physical location is always present. We even created a weather station that displays real-time weather conditions at Bully Hill, to help you plan your trip down!

Interaction Design

Every Bully Hill wine features beautiful custom artwork for it's label. Some are Walter's work while others come from local artists. We used the wine listing page as an opportunity to showcase some detail of the artwork when a user hovers over the bottle.
